Artisan Batiks: Orbital Sunrise by Karen Nyberg for Robert Kaufman Fabrics.
Karen is a retired NASA astronaut. Always engaging in textile arts, she has turned her attention full time to fabric and quilt designs. Orbital Sunrise is inspired by Karen's own photography through the cupola window of the International Space Station during her tenure in space. Orbital Sunrise is the term used for a sunrise seen from space when the curvature of the earth is visible. Karen describes viewing the orbital sunrise from the ISS as "one of the most beautiful and moving things I've ever experienced. The beauty of the moment always awed me, so I loved the idea of naming a line of fabrics after something so beautiful."
